Raúl Gallegos leads the political risk practice in the Andean region for Control Risks. He is an expert in Venezuela and advises oil and gas clients on how to manage economic, political, reputational and security risks in high risk environments, including frontier markets like Guyana. For more than 15 years Raul worked as an international journalist including as a Caracas-based correspondent for the Wall Street Journal. He is the author of “Crude Nation: How Oil Riches Ruined Venezuela”, a book praised by The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and CNN’s Fareed Zakaria. He holds a BA in Economics from UC Berkeley, a master’s degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, and a master’s in Journalism also from Columbia.
